I Didn't Build What?! President Barack Obama has shown once again that not only does he fail to understand the basic underpinnings of the American entrepreneurial spirit, but he aims to change the way Americans understand success.
We've all heard his now infamous quote, "If you've got a business, you didn't build that - somebody else made that happen."
And this is where Obama loses the vast majority of Americans. Those of us who have grown up in this great country understand that successful businesses like Apple, Coca-Cola, and Wal-Mart were built because someone had a great idea, they worked hard, and they saw it through. They weren't created because the government willed them into existence, and they weren't created because someone was handed an idea and a path to success.
But this is Obama's economy. The entrepreneur doesn't own a business's idea, the government does. You don't own your savings, the government does. You didn't achieve your accomplishments, the government did that!
But the people aren't buying it! The Contract from America is built on three core ideas: Individual Liberty, Limited Government, and Economic Freedom - and this new "You Didn't Build That" doctrine flies in the face of all three beliefs!
We will continue to fight for these ideas and for the entire Contract from America. With your support, we can together begin to restore and renew America.
